What matters most when contemplating hiring a company to repair or restore your log home?

There is no denying there is a level of comfort in knowing the company is nearby.  However, in the specialized service world we live in today, we often have to look outside of our back yard to get the qualified and experienced team needed.  So what matters most?

Thoughtful Planning:

Having an experienced Sales Manager that will take the time and review with you what’s needed for your restoration or repair job and explain the process and associated costs.  You should be presented a professional plan of action and bid.  Your bid should be firm and should come with certain work guarantees. You should have a good understanding of the process and knowing what to expect when hiring a company.

Experience:

Hiring a company with vast and time-tested experience can mean the difference in the need for future repairs.  The old saying of “If you think hiring a professional is expensive, try hiring an amateur” couldn’t be more true. Make sure you are hiring professionally-trained restoration technicians that are committed to providing the highest quality work that will always exceed your expectations. Look at their website, read the reviews, ask for client referrals.  Often this means looking broader than your local service companies.

Communication:

This is key!  People want that open line of communication.  They want to understand the entire process and make sure they are being communicated with during the process.  Customer service is key to communication.  You should be comfortable in asking questions and getting direct answers that are informative.

Client-Partner Fit:

One important way we feel connected is through a philosophical/cultural fit.  What is the companies, the sales managers core values?  Ask the questions until your satisfied you have the answer.  Relationship building is huge to companies that have been in a successful business, that’s how they stay in business.

So, the answer to the question of Local vs. Non-local is it doesn’t matter so long as they meet the above criteria.  I would offer one thought… when you hire a team from multiple states away would you agree they are indeed a specialized team otherwise they would be in every city and any laborer could be hired to do it.  Often you will see that specialized companies come in and do the job when local companies just don’t have the experience to do right!
